Introduction

Computational Lexicology and Lexicography (Amsler 1982; Bennett 1986; Boguraev&Briscoe 1989; Zampolli, A., Cignoni, L., Peters, C., in honor of Bernard QUEMADA*, 1990; Lender 1991; Nives Mikelić Preradović; Zampolli A. & Calzolari N.; Sabourin, Conrad F 1994; Atkins&Zampolli 1994; Ooi 1998; Hanks 1998; Lin 1999; PruvostT J.** 2000; Hartmann&James 2000; Zhang 2013, Elexis; ACL; Euralex 2016, etc.) represent an innovative field that leverages digital technologies to enhance our understanding of words. By combining advanced computational methods with traditional word and dictionary studies, this area opens new avenues for analyzing, categorizing, and visualizing lexical data.

Technologies such as computer information processing, database management, artificial intelligence, multimedia, and networking are rapidly and deeply influencing lexicography and dictionary compilation. (Zhang, 2013). This domain allows us to create more precise and interactive tools for the development and use of dictionaries. Through computational lexicology and lexicography, we can deepen our language knowledge, facilitating cross-cultural communication and foreign language learning, translation.

The rise of computational lexicology and lexicography highlights the importance of words in the fabric of our modern society, making information more accessible and useful for everyone.

2. Digital lexicography

01/2023 - 12/2024 (2 years): Project "中欧数字辞书创新发展路径比较及对策研究 [Chinese and European Digital Lexicography]" (Project Number: G2023157010L) - funded by the Ministry of Science & Technology of the People's Republic of China and Huazhong Agricultural University, China.
Project Leader: GENG Yundong 耿云冬 (Associate Professor, Bilingual Lexicographer in the Department of Foreign Languages at Huazhong Agricultural University, China).
Coordinator: CHEN Lian 陈恋, (LLL UMR 7270 CNRS laboratory - University of Orléans; Language Sciences at LT2D EA7518, Cergy Paris University).
Objectives: To assess the development and trends in digital lexicography between Europe and China over the last 20 years, invite experts to present their work in China to enhance exchanges and cooperation between the two continents, and publish a book by experts from different countries along with a book from the international conference (English) on the subject (the language can be the mother tongue; we will find a translator for you and will manage the invited experts).
Scientific Activities: Conferences and publications.

1. DiCoP

Duration: 2021 - Present
Project Leader : Chen Lian
Website: Phraseologia.com (currently under development)
Objectives:
To develop a digital dictionary (currently French-Chinese / Chinese-French, with plans for multilingual support) and to compile a corpus concerning phraseological units (collocations, proverbs, idiomatic expressions, puns, common expressions, etc.). The project aims to create associated databases that track the frequency of these units in various contexts (e.g., newspapers, literary works, textbooks).
To advance and improve the field of phraseological translation (focusing on overall meaning and context rather than word-for-word translation) and natural language processing (NLP), as well as phraseodidactics (introducing phraseological units into learning earlier and more regularly based on their opacity).
Scientific Activities: Conferences and publications in French, English, and Chinese.

The symposium will feature contributions by world-renowned academics, promoting dialogues among top lexicography theorists, practitioners, and publishers from both China and around the world.
Theme
In line with the overarching theme, “Lexicography and Knowledge Services in the Age of AIGC”, we invite submissions of high-quality empirical and theoretical research papers that cover a broad spectrum of topics, including but not limited to:
1. Pedagogical lexicography and language technologies (esp. use of Chatbots in dictionary-making)
2. Dictionary-integrated L2 pedagogy: theory and practice
3. Lexicography in the context of convergence media: theory and practice

Abstract: In the talk I will review the development of methods for automating dictionary production from corpus data.
I will start with a brief overview of the "historical" corpus revolutions (as identified e.g. by Rundell, 2008) and their implications on the lexicographic process, with the main part of the talk focusing on the most recent change leading to a lexicographic workflow called “ Post-editing lexicography".
I will discuss in detail to what extent this is a revolution or evolution, how individual parts of the lexicographic workflow are affected and what are the main implications on the lexicographic business process.
Finally, I will review these changes in the light of the availability of large language models and general AI development.
